Backfill (Charts)

Print this Topic  Top of Page  Introduction

QuoteTracker builds the charts to display for each symbol from the quotes data it retrieves from the selected site.  Backfill refers to the process of filling in the "missing" data so that a complete chart will be displayed.

This process is used for both Intraday and Historical charts.  The source used for backfill data (as well as associated options) is setup in Data Sources on the Backfill tab for intraday charts and on the Hist. Backfill tab for historical charts.

The menus will show a Backfill Chart for.... option.  Selecting this option will initiate the process and allow you to view the full data available for the symbol.

When a chart is being backfilled, a yellow box will appear to the right of the menus on the main screen, showing the symbol:

To stop the backfill process, click on the yellow box.  A dialog will appear asking you to confirm this action.

For most symbols, you would simply select the standard Backfill option.  However, not all sites may use the same symbol formats universally, such that the symbol to be backfilled may not be the same for the selected quote site as the backfill site.  For these cases, a  Backfill Chart for .... As option is provided from the right click menu so that you can specify the corresponding symbol to use to backfill the chart:

Using the current selected backfill site (listed), enter the corresponding valid symbol to get the backfill data from in the Using symbol box.  The Backfill symbol will then be backfilled using this data.  QuoteTracker remembers the corresponding symbol used for each backfill site so that if you backfill the same symbol again using the same backfill site, the Using symbol box will already be filled in correctly for you. Click OK to start the backfill.
