Backup (and Restore)

Print this Topic  Top of Page  Introduction

QuoteTracker stores all its data and settings files in the installed QuoteTracker folder. The files should be backed up routinely in case there is ever a need to restore them. It can also be used when setting up a new computer and you want to have the same setup.  Although, you can manually backup the files (as listed on this screen or in the FAQ section), QuoteTracker can automate the process for you and restore the files if needed.

Backup:

Backup and setup is accessed from the Backups tab in Preferences or from the File menu by selecting Backup Settings:

Select the Backup Folder where to save the files, the # of configurations to save (after which the oldest will get overwritten) and when to Back files up on - Start (each time Quotetracker starts) or Exit (each time Quotetracker exits). You can check both boxes to have the backup done on both Start and Exit or neither box to disable Automatic Backups.

Next, select which files you want to back up from the list: User Files, Layouts, Quotes and/or News. The last  two contain all the accumulated data in the system. These may be large.

Click OK to save the settings.  QuoteTracker will save the automated backup files in standard zip (compressed) format at the specified times.  Automatic Backup files are named BKUP followed by the date and time of the backup.

You can also initiate a backup on your own (aside from Automatic Backups selected) at any time on this screen by clicking on the Backup The Files Above Right Now button.

Restore:

To restore the files from a backup, select Restore Backups from the File menu:

Select either Backup from Folder which will list the Backup Files available that you can select to restore or  Backup from File which you may have in another folder. You will see a list of files contained in the backup set. Select the specific files to restore or click on the Select All button to select all the files in the backup.

Click on the Start Restore button to start the restore process. You will see another screen to confirm your selections and then QuoteTracker wil restart and use the restored files.
