You can have QuoteTracker send you an email whenever an alert is triggered. In order to do this, you first need to set up an Email Template, to tell the program where to send the email and how to format the message in the email. You can access this setup screen from the Alerts Menu on the main screen or through the right click function on a symbol. The email template information is entered on the Email Templates tab of the Portfolio and Alerts screen and looks like this:

The upper right part of the screen lets you specify the general information needed to send out any email alerts. Enter the following information:
FROM Email - This should be your email address
MAIL Server Address - The Outbound (SMTP) mail server that will be used to send the mail. If you are using Outlook, Outlook Express, Netscape, Eudora or a similar mail program, you can look in the account information in there to find the address. If you cannot find this info, contact your ISP or Network Administrator to get it
Server PORT- This is the port number used to connect to the server. In most cases this should be left as default (25). If you have number other than 25 specified in your email program, then you should enter that number here
Requires Authentication - If your email server requires you to login to send out email, you would check this box and specify the User ID and Password.
The lower half of the screen lets you create new email templates. To create a new template click on the New Template button, then enter the following information:
Template Name - The name you want to give this new template
Send To - The email address that the alert should be sent to. This is usually your email address. If your pager or cell phone has an email address (most do), you can use that email address to have the alert sent directly to the phone or pager. Most are in the form of pin number or cell phone number @ yourserviceprovider (e.g. 2125551212@mobile.cellphone.net). To send to multiple email addresses, enter them separated by a semi-colon (;).
Subject - The text that should appear in the subject of the email message
Message Body - The text that should appear in the body of the email message
NOTE: Although you can enter anything you want in the Subject and the Body of the message template, you do not want to put specific symbols prices or other alert related information there since a single template can be used for multiple alerts. Instead, put predefined place holders in place of these values. QuoteTracker will then replace these place holders with the appropriate data once the alert is triggered. For example, if you use QuoteTracker <ALERTTYPE> ALERT!!! <SYMBOL> is at <LAST>. <CHART> and a high alert for symbol ABCD is triggered at a last price of 50.25, QuoteTracker will send an email:
QT HIGH ALERT!!! ABCD is at 50.00. QuoteTracker substituted HIGH for <ALERTTYPE>, ABCD for <SYMBOL> and 50.25 for <LAST>. If a chart is open for the triggered symbol, a chart picture will be emailed as well. If more than one chart is open for the symbol, the first one that was opened is sent.
When editing the alert template, you can bring up a menu of these place holders by right clicking in the Subject and/or Message Body text fields. Click on the one you want to insert where you have the text cursor:

While editing the template, you can click on the Preview button to see what the message will look like with the place holders filled in. QuoteTracker uses sample values for the place holders in the preview:

To make sure all your settings are correct and an email alert can actually be sent, click on the Test button. This will bring up the window on the right and send an actual test email with the information you provided. |

NOTE: Setting up a template does not automatically send an Email for an alert. When setting up an alert, you will have to specify the Email Template that should be used to email the alert when it is triggered on the Alerts Tab.
