Before you can trade directly from QuoteTracker, you must properly setup at least one Broker/Account on the Trading tab of the Data Sources/Proxy screen from the Options Menu or the MENU button on the main screen.
The Trade, Transactions, Account Info and Trade Log panels are the panels used in trading and can be opened on the main screen by clicking on the tabs below the menus:

Prior to setting up a Trading account, the panel(s) will show the following:
|
To initially configure a trading account, you can access the set up screen, by clicking on the Click Here button. |
Once set up, and the panels are open, they are normally docked or "attached" to the main screen. Pictured below is the Trading panel undocked or "free floating" and detached. In this state, you can move, resize and minimize the panel anyway you like. Same is true for the Transaction Monitor panel:

|
When the panel is floating (detached from the main screen), the top button will have a DOWN arrow to dock the window. When it is docked (attached to the main screen), it will have an UP arrow to un-dock it. The second (round) button will be lit when a transaction is in the process of being submitted. The rest of the buttons move from screen to screen, similar to the Back and Forward buttons on your browser. This is available, so you can review and/or modify any selections prior to submission. |
|
When the panels are open and detached, you can close them like any other window by clicking on the X close button in the upper right of the panel. If they are attached to the main screen, you can close them, as any other attached panel, by clicking on the vertical bar to the left of the panel. |
Clicking on the pushpin will link the window to the selected color group.
The panels, data boxes, buttons, tabs (such as Stocks, Options, etc. across the top) and dialog messages are very specific to the Broker and type of trading transaction you select. In fact, if you are familiar (and should be) with the trading interface and the terminology used at the broker's website, trading through QuoteTracker will be very much the same as it mimics the broker's trading interface. Please check on our website at http://www.quotetracker.com/help, as some brokers may have specific setup instructions and details. For example, setup and specific details on special trading features such as Bracket orders for TD AMERITRADE can be found at http://www.quotetracker.com/help/tdameritrade.shtml.
If the Password box is not filled in, you will have to enter your password before you submit the trade. The options for the password are set on the Trading tab of the Data Sources screen.
You can set up a trade by manually entering and selecting all the required information Trading can also be invoked for a specific symbol by selecting Trade ... from the various right click pop up menus for a symbol, or from the Portfolio or Tools menu. In this case, The Trading panel will open (if it is closed) and the Symbol, # Shares (depending on the options set in Data Sources/Trading on the # of Shares tab) and Price will be automatically filled in. If you selected the option in Data Sources/Trading, you can also double click on the Bid, Ask or Last price for any symbol. You can also invoke trading at a specific ECN/MM (if supported) directly from the Level II screen.
Make sure the correct Broker, Account and (type of trade) tab (if applicable) is selected. Make any adjustments necessary, select your options and click the appropriate button (Buy, Sell, etc.) to initiate the trade.
What happens next, as stated earlier, is specific to the broker and your preferences. Once the transaction is submitted, a dialog similar to the one below (or a confirmation window, etc.) may appear. This is what was returned from the broker's website. It may indicate a successful transaction or a problem that may have occurred in submitting the transaction:

You are given the option to see exactly what was returned from the site, by clicking on the See the Web Page button which will open a browser window showing you the exact screen on the broker's site. QuoteTracker saves a copy of the web page in the QuoteTracker folder in HTM format. This may be useful for review or debugging if necessary. To have these files automatically deleted (for security reasons) or to bypass this confirmation dialog, you can set these options on the Trading tab of the Data Sources
screen.
Although each interface is different by broker, the following are common to all:
Click on the
button to access the Trade setup screen.
Broker: Select the Broker from the drop down list.
Account: Select the Account (NickName) you want to use for this trade as setup in the list of Accounts on the Trading tab of the Data Sources/Proxy screen.
Symbol: The symbol being traded.
# Shares: The number of shares to be traded.
Password: For the first trade in this session, you will always have to enter your trading password. You can have QuoteTracker remember the password for subsequent trades in the same session by selecting that option on the Trade setup screen.
Server: Some brokers may have several servers you can use for trading. If there's a problem with one, you can select another by clicking on this button.
Buy/Sell, etc.: Click on the button for the type of trade to submit to the broker.
Clear: Click this button to clear all the entries in the Trading panel.
|
The entries with spin controls, such as # Shares and Prices can be adjusted to work with the range you specify, on the Trade setup screen. |
|
To the right of each price box is Price Peg button such as this |
- (dash) indicates Price Peg is off and will not automatically update. B indicates the price is pegged to the Bid Price. A indicates the price is pegged to the Ask Price. L indicates the price is pegged to the Last Price. O indicates the price is pegged to an Offset of one of the selected three prices:

Select which price (Bid, Ask or Last) you want to Offset From and the value to offset by.
As each transaction is completed, it will appear in the Transaction Monitor panel. This can happen automatically or manually when the panel is open, depending on how it was setup on the Trade setup screen. This is similar to the "daily activity" report available on your broker's website. Below is a sample Transaction panel detached from the main screen:

The transactions in this panel are grouped by category and in the order specified as your preference on the Data Sources Trading tab (Other Settings). The information, options and buttons may differ depending on the type of trade transaction and the broker. The categories that may be available for selection selected from the drop down list are:
All: Lists all transactions.
Open: Lists open (or pending) orders.
Open/Filled: Lists open (outstanding) and filled (completed) orders.
Filled: Lists filled (completed) orders.
Other: Lists others that are not open or filled such as invalid or rejected orders. Refer to trade log for more info that may be available.
Click on the Refresh button to retrieve and update the transactions display.
Transactions, such as unconfirmed and open ones, may be acted upon from this panel by highlighting the transaction(s) and clicking on the appropriate button. This can also be done by right clicking on the transaction and selecting the action from the pop up menu:
|
Record Transaction(s) in Portfolio: For completed orders, (buy or sell) select this option to add a line to the end of your portfolio for each of the selected trades. Cash symbol will be adjusted or added if it does not already exist. Print... and Save...: Brings up a print or save dialog window to allow you to print/save the transactions. Copy: Copies the transaction(s) to the Windows Clipboard for pasting into another application. |
