Linking Windows

Print this Topic  Top of Page  Introduction

Intraday Charts, Historical Charts (Dynamic),  Historical Charts (static - Prophet), Level II, Raw Data, Historical Data, News and Trade Panel windows have a pushpin in the upper right of the window (title bar).  In the un-pressed state (as shown), the window is not linked to any other and is a "stand-alone" window.

When you click on the pushpin (to depress it), a row of colored pushpins will appear .  Click on one of the colored pushpins to link or "tie"  the window to that color group.  The button will then be depressed (as shown) and show the selected linked color group.  Changing the symbol in one linked window will change the other linked windows of the same color group to the same symbol automatically. The pushpin is a toggle, i.e. click on a pushpin again to unlink the window.

In addition to linking windows of the same color group together, each portfolio, watchlist and the Most Actives, Options Chains, Advanced Scanner windows has a pushpin as well can also be linked to a color group.  If you have linking turned on in the portfolio, watchlist, Most Actives, Options Chains or Advanced Scanner window and have other open windows linked to the same color group, the mouse pointer will change to a pushpin (in the selected color) as you point to a symbol row, indicating that selecting (clicking) on this symbol will change all the linked windows of the same color group to this symbol.  If you hold down the SHIFT key on the keyboard, clicking on any column in the portfolio or watchlist will show the pushpin pointer and will activate linking, otherwise only clicking specifically in the Symbol column will do so.

The link button can be set to show or not to show on the title bar per option in Misc. Preferences under Window Title Buttons.
