Setting up your Quote Sites

Print this Topic  Top of Page  Introduction

QuoteTracker can use a lot of different sources to get quotes from.  Each source is a Web site, and is not controlled by us.  Some of them (usually delayed quote sites) do not require registration, some are free once you register and some are subscription or broker sources. For the subscription or free-with-registration sites, first go to the site itself and subscribe.  Once you have the name and password assigned to you by the site (or broker), bring up this screen by selecting Data Sources/Proxy from the Options Menu or the MENU button on the main screen:

Select the Site you want to setup from the Site drop down list.  Generally, they are listed alphabetically with delayed sites towards the bottom.  Recommended data sources are listed towards the top.  The full list of supported and recommended sites and details about them can be found on our website at http://www.quotetracker.com/qsources.shtml.

Specify the name and password if necessary.  If you check the Save Password check box, the program will remember your password for the next session.  If not, you will have to enter the password each time you enter the program.  The password is saved in an encrypted form, so even if someone sees it in the stored form, they will not be able to get access to your account.

Some sites will have the option to Use WebLogin.  Checking this box will pop up a browser window of the actual site and you can login through there.  Some sites may require you to do this and this option will be automatically checked (cannot be unchecked).  If the site does not require it, it is recommended that you do not use this option.

You can set the Active Times to fetch quotes or leave it set at the Default.  These are the times that quotes will be fetched automatically.  At other times it will be inactive, however, you can still get quotes manually.  Also see active market times settings for multiday charts.

Checking Always use system time for quotes will use your PC clock as the quote times rather than the actual time of the quote returned by the quote site. You can do this for your own preference or if the site is returning bad quote times on the quotes, which is problematic for QuoteTracker. Also see the Timing tab and Sync Time in Preferences.

Also, please check on our website at http://www.quotetracker.com/help, as some sites may have specific setup instructions.

The options above are specific to each site and my differ deprnding on the site you are setting up.  The following options are one setting for all sites:

Fetch Quotes for All PortfoliosIf checked, all portfolios with the same selected site as the main portfolio will update (even if not opened on the screen), in essence treating them all as one large portfolio,  otherwise only the current open portfolio(s) will update.

Enter the number of times to try to connect before a pop up notifies you of a connection/login failure.
