Setting up your Trading Account(s) - Data Sources

Print this Topic  Top of Page  Introduction

This tab, accessed by selecting Trading Setup or Data Sources/Proxy from the Options Menu or from the  or the MENU button on the main screen, is used to setup OLB (OnLine Broker) accounts and options to be used in Integrated Trading:

Broker: Select your broker from the drop down list.  Each broker has a different trading interface and is very specific.  You can not add a broker to the list.  This has to be done by us and requires the cooperation of the broker.  If your broker is not on the list  then it has not being configured to work with QuoteTracker.

Account NickNames: Lists all the accounts associated with the selected broker that you want to use in Trading.  You can have one or several accounts.  A nickname ("alias") is any name you choose to identify the specific account.  For each account, you must enter the login (such as username and password) required to access the trading function on your broker's website.  This may or may not be the same as the one used for quotes.  It depends on the broker and how you set it up on their website.  To change the login for an account, highlight it and make the changes to the login information.  To add a new account, click the Add button.  The following dialog will appear:

Enter the NickName for the account and click OK.  The Account will then appear in the Account Nicknames list where you can enter the login for the account.  To delete an account, highlight the Account Nickname in the list and click the Delete button. To rename an account nickname, highlight it in the list and click the Rename button to enter a new name.

Synchronize with Portfolio - Available only for TD AMERITRADE accounts, checking this option will create a portfolio that is synchronized to your account positions.

Notes:

This screen does not select the account to be used for trading in the program - it is only a setup screen. Once an account has been setup for a broker on this screen you then select the account on the main screen Trade Panel to be used for trading.
Please check on our website at http://www.quotetracker.com/help, as some brokers may have specific setup instructions and details.  For example, setup and specific details on special trading features such as Bracket orders for TD AMERITRADE can be found at  http://www.quotetracker.com/help/tdameritrade.shtml.

Remember intra-session passwords: In every session that you start QuoteTracker, you will be required to enter your trading account password in the Trading Panel, the first time you trade.  Checking this box will leave the password in the password box so you do not have to re-enter the password for subsequent trades (or cancellations, for example) even if your broker requires that on their website.  If this box is not checked, you will have to enter the password every time (it is required).  This is for security purposes.  Also, see Pre-fill trading password option below.

Double Click on Bid/Ask/Last Invokes Trading:  By default, whenever you click on any column for a symbol, the Intraday Chart for the symbol appears.  Checking this box will cause the Symbol, # Shares (see # of Shares settings, below) and the Price (Bid, Ask or Last) that you double clicked on to appear in the Trading Panel with the symbol ready to be submitted for trading.

Clear trade panel after transaction: Check this box to have all trade panel entries, including Buy or Sell buttons cleared after a valid transaction is executed to setup for the next trade.

Delete Temp HTM files: QuoteTracker saves a copy of the web page in the QuoteTracker folder in HTM format.  This may be useful for review or debugging if necessary.  To have these files automatically deleted (for security reasons, perhaps), you can do so by checking this box.

Pre-fill trading password This option is only available if you selected to encrypt your data files using the Security feature from the File menu.  Selecting this option will automatically fill in your password for you when you trade, so that you do not have to enter it.  Checking this option overrides the Remember intra-session passwords option above.

Other available customization tabs are:

# of Shares:

This tab is used to set the number of shares to be automatically placed in the Trade panel when a trade is invoked.

Value of transaction: $: Enter the maximum dollar amount to be used in determining the number of shares, based on the price of each share.

Minimum # of shares: Enter the minimum number of shares to be used for the trade.

Maximum # of shares: Enter the maximum number of shares to be used for the trade.

Round the # of shares: In computing the number of shares based on the transaction dollar value and the minimum and maximum shares, select to round the shares to the nearest, up to or down to the number selected from the drop down list.

First, the number of shares is computed based on the Value of transaction $ entered and the current price per share.  Next, it is adjusted to fit the Minimum and Maximum range entered, if necessary, and rounded accordingly.

To always use the same # of shares without regard to Value of transaction $, set the Minimum # of shares and the Maximum # of shares to the same number of shares you always want to use (and the Value of transaction $ to a very high number).  To only use the Value of transaction $ without regard to the # of shares entered, set Minimum to 1 and Maximum to a very high number.

Use current holdings as default if available: If this box is not checked, the number of shares placed in the Trade panel, will always be based on the settings entered on this screen.  If this box is checked, the number of shares placed in the Trade panel, will be your current holdings (the Quantity entered for the symbol on the Edit Portfolio screen) for the symbol that you clicked on in the portfolio. This is the Quantity for the symbol as on the Edit Portfolio screen.  If there is no Quantity, the number of shares will be based on the default settings entered on this screen.

Restrict Level II to clicked on item: When trading directly from the Level II screen and this box is checked, the # of Shares pre filled will be that of the Level II item clicked on.  If this box is not checked, the other options specified above will be used for the # of Shares.

Auto-refresh Transactions:

These two options are for the Transaction Monitor panel:

Auto-refresh when visible: Check this box to have the transactions in the Transactions panel automatically update (refresh) when the panel is open.

Refresh transactions every X seconds: Enter how often the transactions are automatically updated (when the panel is visible) in seconds.  Of course, you can always click the Refresh button on the Transactions Panel whenever you want to manually update.  Note: Some brokers such as TD AMERITRADE are optimized and send updated trading information as part of the quotes data stream making it more optimized and faster.  If your broker works like this and the quotes site is set to the trading broker, it will update as it comes in and not use the settings on this screen.

Spin Increments:

In the Trading Panel, the Prices and # of Shares entry boxes have up/down spin controls for quick data entry.  You can set the level of the increments based on the range of the value currently in the boxes, for even quicker entry.

This can be done for Prices and the # of Shares entry boxes by entering the low and high values, using < and > and entering the spin control values for that range.  The range and values are separated by commas.  Check the boxes of the items you want to have this feature enabled for and enter the range and increment values:

For example, entering  <100 10,  <500 50,  <1000 100,  > 500 for the # of Shares means:If the # of Shares box contains a value of up to but not including 100, the spin increment will be by 10.  For a range of 100 up to and not including 500, the spin increment will be by 50.  Up to and not including 1000, the spin increment will be by 100.  Anything 1000 or above will increment by 500.
